Kristen asked for help hanging decorations and objects on the wall at her home. She is having a hard time finding studs to secure the heavy pictures and decorations on the wall. Together, we decided installing a decorative board around the room would be perfect so she could put her decorations anywhere on the wall and know they would be anchored well.
Directions for Help When you Can’t Find a Stud in the Wall to Hang Heavy Objects
Materials needed for hanging decorations on the wall when you can’t find a stud:
- Decorative Board the length of the section plus an additional 2 feet for angle cuts
- Wall paint (either wall paint color or a different color) or stain
- Saw with a miter box
- Stud Finder
- Wood Filler
We measured the wall distance required plus two feet and headed to the hardware store. We found a nice decorative chair rail board. The chair railing had a decorative lip at the top of the board that we liked for the mounting rail. We had decided to paint it instead of staining it so the pine chair railing was acceptable with an exceptional price.
We used an old-fashioned hand saw with a miter box to do the cuts since we didn’t have a power miter saw with us. With just two corners and two end pieces, the work went fairly quickly.
We used a stud finder to find the studs to install the chair railing. Screws were counter sunk to secure the boards in place. The holes were filled with wood filler and when dried sanded smooth.
We used paint to match the wall to complete the overall look of the decorative railing. The project worked out well so Kristen can hang up all of her decorations no matter the weight which was important since the phone a couple of the other items were too heavy to hang with wall anchors and not having a stud in the wall.
We loved how it turned out and hope you do too. Please leave us a comment. Thank you
